Summary:
Function & Scope: Provide responsible technical and supervisory skills in the procurement, set-up of , and training related to laboratory equipment. Responsible for supervision of technical support staff.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepares specifications for setting up equipment in classrooms and laboratories.
- Responsible for the scheduling and procurement of equipment for demonstrations.
- Supervises issuance of equipment.
- Oversees the set-up for lectures, demonstrations or experiments.
- Maintains inventory of laboratory equipment.
- Supervises and participates in the construction, maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment.
- May instruct students, departmental employees and faculty in the use of equipment and in safety procedures.
Marginal Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Coordinates special projects.
Supervision:
Received: General Supervision- Incumbent develops own ways to effectively perform a variety of duties or performs complex duties within established policy guidelines; responsible for a defined set of assignments, expected to determine and create procedures to set priorities and meet goals.
Given: Supervises laboratory support personnel and/or students.
Education:
Required: Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
Required: 6 or more years experience in performing related technical and supervisory work.
Preferred: 10 or more years experience.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience in shop procedures and various demonstrations.
SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions)
Proficiency in all areas of work. Normal office conditions. Occasional travel.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
