Summary:
Function & Scope:
To assist in the maintenance and operation of the animal experimentation/research facilities. Responsible for the performance of routine non-technical tasks.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Review, comprehend and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific area.
- Monitor daily animal health/welfare while performing daily animal health observations.
- Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain quality/health of research animals includes daily bottle/cage checks; provide appropriate food/water; cage changing/cleaning.
- Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor.
- Dispose of animal carcasses following established procedures.
- Observe & report problems involving animal care equipment and environmental support systems.
- Maintain accurate departmental animal housing/support area record keeping.
- Record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
- Receive, inspect and put away received incoming animals; ensure and provide for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area.
- Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines.
- Sanitize facilities, animal housing units, and ancillary animal care equipment.
- Perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.
