Animal Attendant

Summary:

Function & Scope: To assist in the maintenance and operation of the animal experimentation/research facilities. Responsible for the performance of routine non-technical tasks.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Cleans and sterilizes cages.
  • Responsible for feeding and bedding of animals.

Marginal Functions:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: Close supervision on most work projects.

Given: None.

Education:

Required: Completion of the 8th grade.

Preferred: N/A

Experience:

Required: None.

Preferred: N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Use of sterilizer.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Must be able to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions. Usual laboratory work conditions. Sometimes requires working in hazardous environments.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
