Summary:
Function & Scope: To assist in the maintenance and operation of a research laboratory. Responsible for the performance of routine non-technical laboratory tasks.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Cleans and sterilizes such laboratory equipment as slides, pipettes, culture dishes, and test tubes.
- Makes up specimen sets according to specific instructions for variety of laboratory procedures.
- Keeps laboratory supplies in order.
- Prepares the more routine chemical solutions such as formalin, saline, alcohol, and others.
- May act as porter in the area to which assigned.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Occasionally assists in the more routine laboratory experiments under close observation.

Received: Close supervision on most work projects.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to learn the operation of sterilizers, and other simple laboratory equipment.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Must be able to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions. Usual laboratory conditions. Sometimes requires working in hazardous environments.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
