Foreman of Remodeling and Construction

Summary:

Function & Scope: Performs supervisory work in connection with the remodeling and/or new construction of University buildings, facilities, etc. Responsible for assigning, scheduling, and supervising the work of a crew of maintenance or utility workers.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervises skilled, semi-ski11ed and unskilled workers engaged in remodeling and construction of University facilities.
  • Makes work assignments, instructs workers on proper methods to use, checks work in progress and upon completion for compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Orders supplies/materials as needed.
  • Makes periodic reports as to status and cost of projects, interviews potential employees.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: General supervision by Maintenance Supervisor.

Given: Close supervision of all construction crew employees.

Education:

Required: High school graduation.

Preferred N/A

Experience:

Required: Three years journeyman level experience in construction or remodeling.

Preferred: N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Equipment: Knowledge of standard equipment used in the construction/remodeling trades.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

  • Working Conditions - Usual office building conditions.
  • Some exposure to potentially hazardous conditions on construction sites.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with subordinates, other University employees and students.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
