Summary:
Function & Scope: To provide technical and administrative skills in the design, construction, and maintenance activities performed by the Facilities Management Department. Responsible for planning, designing, and general maintenance work.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepares plans, specifications, and cost estimates for construction and remodeling projects.
- Assists the building maintenance management in scheduling new work and regular maintenance, including procurement of materials and contracting of outside labor.
- Reviews and comments on plans for new construction prepared by others.
- Investigates equipment problems and specifies corrective action.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Prepares monthly status reports of work in progress.
Supervision:
Received: General supervision from the Assistant Vice President, Facilities Management. Work is reviewed through conferences and daily contact.
Given: General supervision as specifically designated by supervisor. General supervision of draftsmen and contract designers and contractors.
Education:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in the engineering field or significant relevant experience as a construction project designer and/or manager .
Preferred: N/A
Experience:
Required: Five years of engineering experience.
Preferred: N/A
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the use of drafting and engineering equipment and office calculators.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Accurate in all phases of work performed. Some exposure to weather and physical hazards. Exposure to construction hazards. Assignments require the use of independent judgment in planning work details and making technical decisions.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
