Maintenance Supervisor

Summary:

Function & Scope: To provide overall supervision in the maintenance, inspection, repair and operation of the buildings and utilities. Responsible for the operation of the heating plant, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical system, plumbing, and other utility services. In addition, the work includes the maintenance and repair of all mechanical equipment, buildings, and care o-f the grounds.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervises the maintenance and operation of buildings and equipment and modifications and renovation of facilities.
  • Assists superiors in planning and estimating major repair, remodeling and construction projects.
  • Request materials and maintains inventories.
  • Develops plans, specifications, and estimated costs on repair, alterations and construction projects.
  • Prepares and submits reports.

Marginal Functions:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: General policy supervision and technical assistance from superior but must be capable of exercising independent judgment in work details. Responsible for day to day operations. Review is made through observation and conferences as to the effectiveness of operation and maintenance.

Given: Supervises Maintenance and Remodeling & Construction foremen.

Education:

Required: High School graduation.

Preferred N/A

Experience:

Required: Seven years of skilled/journeyman-level experience in Maintenance and plant operation including one year in a supervisory capacity.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of building HVAC and electrical, fire fighting, and specialized technical equipment.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Proficiency in preparing anticipated maintenance and operation requirements, specifications, and cost estimates. Exposure to possible mechanical or electrical hazards. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with administrative and professional staff and Physical Plant personnel.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
