Grounds Maintenance Foreman

Summary:

Function & Scope: To provide supervisory and technical skills in planning, organizing, and directing the care and maintenance of grounds. Responsible for the maintenance and general beautification of all grounds including gardens, landscaped areas, and parking areas.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises the landscaping, seeding, weeding, cultivating, and general care of the grounds.
  • Plans and supervises cultivation, pruning, spraying, and transplanting of a large variety of shrubs and trees.
  • Prepares working sketches for the development, improvement, or expansion of landscaped areas.
  • Requisitions and distributes materials and equipment for grounds maintenance work.
  • Plans and supervises operation of a greenhouse.

Marginal Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Interviews and recommends suitable applicants for employment.
  • Prepares periodic reports of work as required.

Supervision:

Received: General supervision from a superior.

Given: Detailed instructions and supervision of subordinates.

Education:

Required: High school graduation.

Preferred: N/A

Experience:

Required: Three years of experience in grounds maintenance.

Preferred: N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and minor repair of tractors, cultivators, edgers, and power lawn mowers.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Accuracy in developing and maintaining an efficient and workable landscaping program. Exposure to weather. May occasionally lift heavy objects.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
