Greenhouse & Landscape Coordinator

Summary:

Function & Scope: Assist in the planning and coordinating of the operation of the greenhouse. Assist with planning and scheduling of seeding, weeding, cultivating and general care of grounds. Participates in the scheduling, propagation, cultivation and care of plants, flowers and shrubs used in landscaping the campus. Procures and applied insecticides, fungicides and pesticides as necessary.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsibilities for the preparation of propagation beds, potting materials, and tropical plantings.
  • Mixing feeding materials and applying at specified rates.
  • Receiving, potting, spraying, watering, and otherwise maintaining greenhouse plants, flowers, seedlings, and shrubs.
  • Ensures maintenance of the appropriate temperature and humidity in the greenhouse.
  • Assists in planning and organizing the greenhouse planting and plant rotation schedules and carries out such schedules.
  • Receives and issues greenhouse materials. Recommends the ordering of greenhouse materials and supplies. Will participate in the pruning, spraying and transplanting of a large variety of shrubs and trees.
  • Spray chemicals on turf, shrubs and other plant material.

Required: High School Graduation.

Experience:

Required: A minimum of 2 years of college work in horticulture, greenhouse floriculture or related area. 2 years of nursery or green house experience.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the use of equipment of the building and mechanical trades. Accuracy in the use of tools and equipment, thoroughness in the application of safety principles

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
