Groundskeeper III

Summary:

Function & Scope: To care for grass, plants, and trees and maintain equipment used. Responsible for skilled maintenance of grass, plants, and trees, including determining and applying treatment to unhealthy plants. Operates and repairs grounds care equipment.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Mows grass, trims shrubs, sprays plants, waters plants
  • Transplants a large variety of plants and trees
  • Cultivates unusual types of plants
  • Works in greenhouse
  • Maintains assigned grounds area.
  • Operates and effects repairs on a wide variety of equipment
  • Drives large trucks and provides technical assistance within area of responsibility.

Marginal Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assists with other departmental activities when assigned.

Supervision:

Received: Works independently wit general supervision of overall effectiveness. May be assigned specific projects.

Given: May occasionally supervise and train Groundskeepers I and II.

Education:

Required: Ability to read, write, and work basic arithmetic.

Preferred: N/A

Experience:

Required: Two years of experience in the care of plants, trees, and lawn and knowledge of the operation and repair of grounds equipment.

Preferred: N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skill in the operation and repair of tractors, cultivators, edgers, power mowers, trucks, and other equipment used in grounds maintenance.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Considerable accuracy in the care and treatment of plants, trees, etc., and in the operation and repair of grounds equipment. Exposure to weather/hazardous mechanical equipment. May occasionally lift heavy objects.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
