Summary:
Function & Scope: To provide the skills necessary for the operation and maintenance of utility equipment within Facilities Management. Responsible for insuring that uninterrupted utility services are rendered.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
Ensures uninterrupted utility services and environmental
- Controls through the performance of the following duties for a preponderant portion of the time.
- Operates the Central Data Acquisition System which consists of (1) digital computer, (1) telegraph printer, (1) line printer, cathode ray tube display, and a central keyboard. Restarts system when a failure occurs within the Central Processing Unit Computer.
- Monitors computer display for (a) temperatures, humidity, status of exhaust fans, filters, air handlers, sump pumps, C/W pumps, etc. and (b) alarms indicating malfunctions.
- Locates and identifies all functions on the computer, employing the procedures needed to bring up the schematic drawings on a slide projector for reference.
- Coordinates with contract maintenance personnel in maintaining CDAS and temperature control systems.
- Assists them in locating malfunctions and correcting problems.
- Responds to building temperature trouble calls by determining the problem and taking corrective action, such as thermostat adjustments.
- Monitors security system during the hours the buildings are secured and coordinates with the University Police on opening and locking doors to allow entry into the buildings.
- Repair and maintain all pneumatic and electronic controls pertaining to building utilities monitored by computer NOT covered by maintenance contract.

Supervision:
Received: Work is performed under the minimum supervision of the Utilities Operations Supervisor. Work methods are not prescribed except when a work assignment deviates substantially from the normal pattern. Although supervision is normally available, the incumbent is expected to work on most assignments with substantial independence. Completed work may be checked for quality and adherence to established procedures.
Given: Provides working supervision as required to one or several building utility operators, instrument repairmen, and/or maintenance workers engaged in repairing malfunctioning equipment in the field or in monitoring the CDAS equipment.
Education:
Required: High school graduation.
Preferred: N/A
Experience:
Required: Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a steam and power generating plant or chilled water plant.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
