Summary:
Function & Scope: To provide sub-journeyman work in the performance of a variety of maintenance and repair tasks in one or more craft areas. Responsible for maintenance and repair work of plumbing, painting, electrical, carpentry, air-conditioning, and refrigeration. Also responsible for the training of Maintenance Workers I's.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Overhauls electric motors
- Installs switches and electric fixtures
- Repairs and calibrates pressure gauges
- Flow meters and other instruments
- Constructs and finishes cabinets, benches and shelves
- Repairs valves, drinking fountains, gas stoves and space and hot water heaters
- Makes inspections of refrigeration equipment and heating system
- Replaces floats in steam traps
- Also performs carpentry work, tapes, beds and paints.
- Required to climb ladders (portable and stationary), scaffolds, and other apparatus used to reach heights of 30 feet or more.
Marginal Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
Received: General instructions from Maintenance Worker III or Foreman. Generally works independently.
Given: May supervise one (1) or more Maintenance Worker I’s.
Education:
Required: High school graduation.

Experience:
Required: Three years of experience in performing a variety of sub journeyman maintenance and repair tasks.
Preferred: N/A
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Equipment: Skilled in the use of trade tools and equipment.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Proficiency in all phases of work performed. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as dust, dirt and the need to work in confined spaces.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
