Automotive Mechanic II

Summary:

Function & Scope: To provide skills in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment. Responsible for performing mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automobiles, trucks, tractors, and related equipment.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform general automotive maintenance on the University’s fleet of cars and trucks including motor tune-up, tire rotation, oil change, cleaning, chassis lubrication and periodic inspection for potential hazards to safe and efficient operation.
  • Also performs maintenance and repair work on large University grounds-related equipment (e.g., tractors)

Marginal Functions:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: General supervision from Manager, Transportation & Office Machines.

Given: Functions as lead mechanic to entry-level mechanic.

Education:

Required: High school graduation.

Preferred: N/A

Experience:

Required: Three years of experience as an automotive mechanic.

Preferred: N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficiency required in all automotive shop tools and gauges. Ability to properly diagnose automotive malfunction and conduct or recommend the most appropriate remedy.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Usual automotive shop conditions located in the landscape and transportation garage.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
