Summary:

Function & Scope: Will install, maintain, inspect and repair mechanical and electrical locks and locking systems.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Will perform installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical and electronic locks, locking systems, door closures and locking devices; inspect, evaluate, and repair and/or replace door hardware systems to assure proper operations.
  • Cut new keys when current keys exist using key codes.
  • Create duplicates of existing keys and stamps with identification codes.
  • Disassemble locks, such as padlocks, safe locks and door locks; repair or replace worn tumblers, springs and other parts.
  • Inspect new or repaired cylinders into lock to change combinations.
  • Provide access to areas for emergency and routine situations, often by "picking' a lock; design, operate and maintain "key trap" security systems to prevent loss of master keys.
  • Prepare estimates of time, labor and materials.
  • Prepare reports reflecting daily operations and project status.
  • File, code and assure safety and security of campus locks and keys.
  • Maintain record of key recipients and respective key codes.
  • Clean, sharpen and calibrate tools as required.
  • Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
  • Participate in the maintenance and operation of a locksmith shop.
  • Perform work in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment; lift, punch and pull 50 lbs

Required: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Required: Minimum of 3 years locksmith experience.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

valid Texas drivers license; knowledge of locks, power assist doors, door hardware and crash bars; available for 24-hr call out.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Available for 24 hour call-out.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
