Summary:
Function & Scope: To assist in the supervision of custodial maintenance and to participate in the building cleaning operations and related work. Responsible for the direct supervision of, and participation in, work performed by a group of building attendants or custodial workers.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Under direct supervision of Building Crew Foreman, assigns work to custodians as required.
- Make routine inspections of assigned areas to determine whether custodial work has been properly performed.
- Train new employees in proper cleaning techniques.
- Assist in the maintenance of inventory and records for custodial supplies.
- Distribute custodial equipment and supplies as needed.
- Assist immediate supervisor in maintenance of employee records.
- Use power equipment and hand implements such as broom, mop, squeegee, buffer, polisher, vacuum, etc., required for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets and furniture.
- Lead others in the set up and removal of furniture required for special events.
- Open buildings and prepare them for use, maintain security when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and unauthorized occupants and reporting anything suspicious to campus security.
- Empty wastebaskets, ash trays, and trash containers, clean chalk boards and erasers, dust furniture, sweep, mop, and polish floors.

Received: Direct supervision from Building Crew Foreman.
Given: Subordinates as assigned.
Education:
Required: Completion of eighth grade. Ability to read and write English.

Experience:
Required: Two years of experience as a building attendant or custodial worker.
Preferred: N/A
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must know how to use basic housekeeping tools; care and maintenance.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions for thoroughness in performing duties. Some positions may necessitate exposure to outside weather or heat. Good health; physical strength and agility sufficient to perform building cleaning work.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
