Summary:
Function & Scope: This position will perform work involving the custodial maintenance of buildings. Responsible for custodial maintenance and miscellaneous related services.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Performs a combination, but not necessarily all, of the following duties: cleans, sweeps, mops, dusts, and scrubs tile work, floors, stairways, hallways, restrooms, offices, classrooms, shower rooms, locker rooms, and building lobbies.
- Waxes and polishes floors.
- Scrubs and cleans restrooms and replenishes restroom supplies.
- Washes windows.
- Cleans, dusts and polishes furniture and other office equipment.
- Polishes nickel and brass work.
- Empties wastebaskets and trash boxes.
- Washes and polishes drinking fountains.
- Operates carpet-cleaning equipment.
- Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Unlocks and secures buildings.
- Reports any obvious repairs needed to the building or institutional equipment.
- Assures energy conservation by ensuring all non-necessary lights are turned off (classrooms, offices, etc.)
- Makes an identification of all problems requiring a work order for correction, such as light bulb replacement, lock adjustment, carpet repair, broken glass, holes in walls, ceiling tile replacement tripping hazards, termites, etc.).

Supervision:
Received: Work is performed under general supervision of designated supervisor with detailed instructions given on special assignments.
Given: Supervision of Building Attendant I.
Education:
Required: None.
Preferred: High school graduation or GED.
Experience:
Required: Six months of experience custodial maintenance work.
Preferred: N/A
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of and the ability to use janitorial equipment and supplies.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Knowledge of cleaning and janitorial methods and materials. Ability to perform heavy physical labor as required. Ability to accurately perform all phases of duties assigned. Ability to read English. Proficient in use, care, and maintenance of basic janitorial equipment.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
