Summary:
Function & Scope: This position is to assist in the supervision of a food service area. Responsible for providing assistance in all phases of food preparation and dispensing of food.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Organizes and plans the daily schedules in a food service area.
- Adheres to production timelines.
- Follows established food handling procedures and supervises serving of food. Inspects food for taste, appearance and nutrition. Orders and receives merchandise.
- Prepares payroll and deposits.
- Ensures food preparation equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized.
- Maintains clean and sanitary conditions in the work area.
- Hires and trains new student employees on departmental procedures.
- Completes inventory used to forecast needs and calculate orders.
- Oversees customer service in the dining area.
- Oversees late-night special events on most Thursday and Friday evenings.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Oversees special events such as Homecoming and Scholars Weekends that are held on weekends throughout the year.
Supervision:
Received: General supervision from immediate supervisor.
Given: General supervision of assigned staff.
Education:
Required: High school graduation or GED.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in business, hotel and restaurant management or other related fields.
Experience:
Required: Two years of experience in a food service area. One year in a supervisory capacity.
Preferred: The above within a university environment.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Food handler certifications. Typical kitchen and dining room equipment. Computer and other office equipment.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Typical university or pub kitchen and dining room.
Frequent late evening work. Special event weekends. Proficiency in all areas of work.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
