Summary:

Function & Scope: To provide skills necessary to perform a variety of responsible food services tasks including limited supervision of and participation in cleaning, set up and food distribution. Responsible for assisting cooks and immediate supervisory personnel, with tasks involved in the handling of food.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare and dish a large variety of salads. Make salad dressings.
  • Fry eggs.
  • Mix batter, make hot cakes, waffles, and bake cornbread.
  • Cook cereals.
  • Make soups, sauces, and gravies.
  • Grind meat. Make hamburgers. Serve at counter.
  • Prepare food trays.
  • Carry bulk foods from storeroom.
  • Clean kitchen equipment.
  • Serve food from cafeteria counter.
  • Wait on tables. Set and clean tables. Bus dishes and utensils.
  • Sweep and mop floors.

Marginal Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Operate cash register.

Supervision:

Received: Specific instructions about foods to be prepared and recipes to be followed.

Given: May occasionally oversees other Food Service Worker.

Education:

Required: Completion of tenth grade.

Preferred: High school graduation.

Experience:

Required: None.

Preferred: One year or more of such experience.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

N/A

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Usual kitchen conditions. Exposure to heat and equipment common in a kitchen. Subject to burns and other kitchen hazards.

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
