Summary:
Function & Scope: To perform responsible supervisory work in directing the monitoring of a facility during operating hours to ensure adherence to security and safety procedures. Responsible for the supervision of a team of Building Monitors and other building management personnel who inspect the facility and ensure building safety and security.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinates schedules of Building monitors to cover the operational hours of the facility, plus weekends and holidays.
- Gathers all information pertinent to the facility and develops an efficient way to disseminate this information to students, faculty, or the general public.
- Hires, trains, and conducts orientations for building management staff.
- Ensures staff is informed of safety and security policies and procedures.
- Participates in programs for staff in the facility.
- Maintains departmental records and composes correspondence.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Interfaces with other University departments in emergency situations.
- Prepares periodic reports related to the operation of the facility.
- Evaluates employees’ performance.
- Purchases items for resale.
Supervision:
Received: General supervision from management staff.
Given: General supervision of Building Monitors and/or custodial staff with detailed instructions for special projects.
Education:
Required: High school graduation or GED.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree, including coursework in law enforcement or other related fields.
Experience:
Required: Two years of facility management experience with responsibility for security and safety of property and personnel, including some supervisory experience.
Preferred: Three or more years of the above experience.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Usual office building conditions. Exposure to dust and dirt. May work in confined areas.

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
