Summary:
Function & Scope: To protect the life and property of all employees and visitors on property under the control of The University of Texas at Dallas. Assists the public by giving directions, information and other aid as needed. Responsible for building security through patrol and observation techniques; prevention of crime; alert to all specific safety hazards, monitors alarm systems and exercises good judgment and initiative. Responsible for organizing and coordination of duties assigned to Guard Division as delegated by supervisor.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides information and service to students, faculty, staff and visitors
- Checks parking permits on vehicles entering parking lots
- Directs flow of traffic and parking of cars
- Issues pass through or visitor’s permits when needed.
- Issues University traffic and parking violation citations
- Patrols building sand grounds on foot or in vehicles to check for fires, water leaks, and general building security, reporting all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity to the University Police Department.
Marginal Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Apprehends suspects in cases of felonies, breaches of the peace, and thefts.
Supervision:
Received: Work is performed under the general supervision of a sergeant, University Police. Supervision is usually available in person or by radio. Work requires the ability to make frequent minor decisions or occasional decisions of some importance. Work is reviewed for completeness, accuracy and compliance with departmental policy and procedure.

Required: One year of experience as a Security Guard.

Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Must be issued a valid Texas drivers’ license. Working conditions involve exposure to variable weather conditions and working on any three shifts with varying days off. Work involves a degree of hazard.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
