Summary:

Function & Scope: To provide service and information to students, employees and visitors; to enforce the rules and regulations of the institution pertaining to the operation and parking of vehicles on University property; to help safeguard University property. Responsible for enforcing the regulations pertaining to the parking of vehicles on University property; directing traffic; patrolling University property to safeguard buildings and property under the control and jurisdiction of the University of Texas at Dallas.

Essential Functions:

Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides service to students; employees and visitors; checks permits on vehicles entering and parked on campus.
  • Must possess physical stamina to stand for long periods of time while directing traffic, issuing permits, enforcing parking regulations or maintaining a security post.
  • Must be able to properly affix University parking citations under windshield properly.
  • Walk over curb lines and up and down stairways while patrolling buildings and grounds to check for fires, water leaks and general building security, reporting all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity to the University Police Department.
  • Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to assist persons being evacuated during emergencies.
  • Must be able to hear and respond to audible emergency alarms and instructions transmitted on police radio.
  • Must be able to respond audibly to public inquiries and transmit clearly over a police radio.

Marginal Functions:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

Received: Work is performed under the general supervision of a Sergeant, University Police. Supervision is usually available in person or by radio. Work requires the ability to make frequent minor decisions and occasional decisions of some significance. Work is reviewed for completeness, accuracy and compliance with departmental policy and procedure.

SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):

Working conditions involve exposure to variable weather conditions and working on any one of three shifts with varying days off. Work involves a degree of hazard Should have the physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out his or her responsibilities and duties as a Police Guard of The University of Texas at Dallas Police. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation. Requires ability to develop a thorough knowledge of University structure, policies, rules and procedures and of appropriate business practices and techniques

Other:

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive; thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
