Summary:
Function & Scope: Provide supervisory & operational skills in the University Police Department communication center. Responsible for supervision of all Police Communications Operators.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Computer Systems Administration-Responsible for providing supervisory & technical expertise & high level decision-making skills required to support & advance the software/hardware functions of the dept.
- Maintain CLERK database.
- Troubleshoot computer software and hardware problems, coordinate repairs with the computer help desk.
- Lead TCO- To make certain all TCO activities and demands are properly covered; making certain sufficient manpower is in place to accommodate TCO needs and/or demands.
- Provide training & assistance to each TCO when questions or problems arise.
- Oversee all scheduling duties. Complete TCO evaluations as required by ODOP.
- Communications Specialist-Responsible for providing technical expertise and decision making skills regarding the department's radio system including the base station, repeaters, mobile radios, & hand-held radios. Insuring compliance with the FCC regulations as they pertain to this dept.
- Responsible for administering the TLETS/NLETS system to insure compliance with FBI and DPS rules & regulations.

Required Advanced Telecommunications certificate from TCLEOSE (Tx Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards & Education).

If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
