Summary:
Function & Scope: Will assist Lab Safety Manager with a high volume of complex duties in a diverse department dealing with confidential regulatory issues.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide expert advice, direction & service on chemical and/or industrial hygiene matters including: immediate response & investigative action for environmental/occupational exposure on lower & upper campus, workplace health surveys, safe use of toxic and/or hazardous substances, & others
- Provide technical assistance in such matters as occupations physical exams & recommendations regarding content & medical surveillance, analytical equipment calibration & maintenance
- Record keeping as required.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Job requires hazardous waste handling and wearing a respirator.
- Must be knowledgeable in Environmental Management.
Supervision:
Received: Specific Supervision :Incumbent performs standard and routine assignments independently to conclusion; unusual problems and exceptions to procedures or processes are referred to the supervisor.

Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
Preferred: Master Degree in Chemistry with CIH.
Experience:
Required: 3 yrs progressive chemical safety management exp.
Preferred: Five years progressive chemical safety management.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of collegiate environment; ability to track & meet deadlines; ability to input & manage databases including Access, Excel, MSDS Pro, HP Assistant & MS Word; valid Texas driver's license w/o violations or citations; CIH eligible; live within 30 minutes driving time of the University to be available on an "on call" basis.

Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
