Summary:
Function & Scope: Will work as team member of the Environmental Health and Safety Department of a large university.
Essential Functions:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Will be responsible for one or more of the following: life safety systems inspections, fire drills, lab safety inspections.
- Waste preparation for final deposit; environmental programs.
- Conduct safety training.
- Construction/remodeling safety; general safety; after hours emergency response.
- Cross training; professional certifications; maintaining related files and databases.
- Assisting other EH & S staff as needed.
Marginal Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assisting the EH&S Department in the maintenance, inspection and repair of the life safety systems on campus.
- The position will also provide oversight of contractors working on life safety systems to ensure code compliance.
- Duties include building and laboratory safety inspections, performing fire drills.

Received: Specific Supervision:Incumbent performs standard and routine assignments independently to conclusion; unusual problems and exceptions to procedures or processes are referred to the supervisor.

Education:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a science field.
Experience:
Required: 3-5 years related experience; computer skills for reports and presentations.
Preferred: 5 years experience. Experience conducting safety related training, 40-hour HAZWOPER certification. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent recordkeeping and organizational skills. Ability to stay cool under pressure or emergency situation.
Special Job Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment and/or working conditions):
Working conditions: Exposure to all weather conditions. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemical fumes, biohazards, and chemicals. Occasional travel required. Participate in after-hours rotating on-call program to include after hours, weekends and holidays. Climbing of ladders, lifting, moving and climbing of stairs.
Other:
If this is a supervisory position, the incumbent is expected to complete required supervisory training; orient, train and develop subordinates; provide appropriate coaching, guidance and supervision to subordinates; and complete annual performance evaluations.

Responsible for duties as assigned relating to internal controls including safe-guarding of department assets, reliability of department financial information, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior written approval of the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Management.
