On the back of the Form I-9 , there is a list of acceptable documents that establish identity and work eligibility.

List A provides a list of documents that establish both identity and work eligibility so you only need one document from this list.

List B documents establish identity only . And List C documents establish work eligibility only . In this case, two documents are required to establish both identity and work eligibility.

You must EITHER fill out List A ,documents that establish both identity & work eligibility, OR one document from List B and one document from List C. It is an error to complete List A, List B and List C documentation. A Social Security card marked "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION", may not be accepted as I-9 Document C documentation. The employee must present a valid passport and supporting documentation.
