New Employee Orientation

Description: New Employee Orientation provides an introduction to and overview of UT Dallas. During the session, participants will learn about the history, mission and values of UTD. Important policies will be discussed as well as the insurance and retirement programs in which eligible employees may enroll. Employee's are encouraged to bring information on the persons they wish to list as beneficiaries (i.e. names, addresses, social security numbers and dates of birth). A box lunch is provided for all who have been registered (see below).

Target Audience: Open to all new benefit eligible staff and faculty.

Registration: There is no open registration for New Employee Orientation. Staff and Faculty should work with their departments to register for New Employee Orientation. All registrations must be in to Human Resources a week in advance of the scheduled session. New Employee Orientation is offered on the first, third and fifth Tuesday of each month. Manager-Supervisor Certificate Program: – Managing Conflict in the Workplace (Module 4)

Description: Participants will learn about the nature of conflict, common approaches we adopt when in conflict and the importance of supervisors and managers taking appropriate action in response to workplace conflict.  (June 11: 10:00 AM till Noon: SOM 1.508)

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand and be able to define workplace conflict
  2. Review how we typically or traditionally respond in times of conflict
  3. Learn about five common approaches to conflict and assess your preferred approach to conflict
  4. Understand what supervisors and managers must do in order to respond effectively to workplace conflict.

This class is a part four of a six module, twelve (12) hour curriculum designed to train and support UT Dallas managers and supervisors in the performance of their jobs. Everyone who successfully completes all six modules of the class will receive a certificate of completion. For more information about this certificate series, please click here.

Target Audience: The class is open to any UT Dallas manager or supervisor. It is also open to employees who currently are not managing or supervising others but aspire to those positions.

EH&S: General Safety (Environmental Specific)

Description: This training is set to cover environmental awareness and safety on this campus. This training will cover storage, handling, segregation and compatibility, regulations, and proper disposal of materials that are non-hazardous as well as hazardous.

Location: Founder’s Classroom; Third Floor: FO 3.616

Target Audience: Campus Wide Audience; but mainly those that are involved primarily with the above description.

EH&S: Driver’s training (Golf Cart Safety Awareness)

Description: This training will go over the safety awareness and precautions that should be implemented while operating a UTDallas insured, motorized vehicle on campus

Location: Founder’s Classroom; Third Floor: FO 3.616

Target Audience: Campus Wide Audience; but mainly for those that operate, and have employees that operate, any of the numerous kinds of Golf Carts and Utility vehicles..

Managers' & Supervisors' Roundtable Discussion Group

Description: The Manager's and Supervisors Roundtable is a group of UTD managers and supervisors who meet together to create opportunities for mentoring, professional development and networking. (We will be meeting from noon till 1:30 in AD 3.104 Lone Star Room.)

Target Audience: The group is open to UTD managers and supervisors who are directly charged with managing the performance of other University staff, including conducting annual performance reviews.

Manager-Supervisor Certificate Program: Dynamic Discipline – Module 5

Description: In this session, managers and supervisors will learn the full range of the University’s discipline process and how to use that process legally, appropriately and effectively.  (June 18: 10:00 AM till Noon: SOM 1.508)

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define and discuss discipline as a learning and communication process.
  2. Identify the full range of disciplinary options available to managers and supervisors and understand the relationship of the disciplinary process to the performance management system at UTD.
  3. Recognize the progressive nature of the disciplinary process and how to distinguish the appropriate response according to the situation.
  4. Understand the importance of documentation to maintaining an effective and legal disciplinary process.
  5. Review University policies on discipline and dismissal and the employee grievance process.

Account Reconciliation Training—Tuesday, June 23rd 2:00- 4:00, Lone Star Room (AD3.104)

Description: The Office of Finance offers Account Reconciliation training classes each quarter. The class is for faculty and staff who must reconcile their financial system account reports and for supervisors or department heads that must review and approve the account reconciliation. In this class you will learn how to read your monthly financial system reports and will be instructed in the steps necessary to conduct account reconciliations. It is recommended that the person who reconciles the account and the person who reviews the reconciliation attend the class together, if possible.

Target Audience: Intended for UTD faculty and staff responsible for reconciling financial system account reports.

Financial Information Systems (FINS) Training – Level 2—Wednesday, June 24th 2-4pm, Odessa Room (JO3.210)

Description: The Office of the Controller is delighted to offer monthly Financial Records System (FRS) training classes for faculty and staff who have direct or indirect responsibilities for processing, reporting, or overseeing financial transactions at UTD. FRS Training – Level 2 is a two hour workshop designed to help attendees:

  • Obtain a basic understanding of UTD’s accounting structure
  • Learn how to navigate and read the online manager screens
  • Understand how to prepare and document Interdepartmental Transfer forms (IDTs)
  • Know how to set up and run Automated Journal Entries (AutoJEs)

Advance Requirements: This workshop assumes that attendees are familiar with FRS basic inquiry screens. We encourage attendees who have never been to an FRS training workshop to attend FRS Training – Level 1 before FRS Training – Level 2. This workshop is given in a computer training room. In order to get the most value, we recommend that you bring your FRS account user name and password. This will allow you to follow the instructor by logging into your own set of data.

Target Audience: This class is for faculty and staff who have direct or indirect responsibilities for processing, reporting, or overseeing financial transactions at UTD.
