New Employee Orientation
Description: New Employee Orientation provides an introduction to and overview of UT Dallas. During the session, participants will learn about the history, mission and values of UTD. Important policies will be discussed as well as the insurance and retirement programs in which eligible employees may enroll. Employee's are encouraged to bring information on the persons they wish to list as beneficiaries (i.e. names, addresses, social security numbers and dates of birth). A box lunch is provided for all who have been registered (see below).
Target Audience: Open to all new benefit eligible staff and faculty.
Registration: There is no open registration for New Employee Orientation. Staff and Faculty should work with their departments to register for New Employee Orientation. All registrations must be in to Human Resources a week in advance of the scheduled session. New Employee Orientation is offered on the first, third and fifth Tuesday of each month. Manager-Supervisor Certificate Program: – EEO Laws (Module 2)
Description: Participants will gain a better understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity laws and the implications they hold for the manager, supervisor and the university as it relates to hiring, discipline and termination.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand that supervisors and managers are held to higher standards both by the University and the courts when it comes to the application of equal employment opportunity (EEO) practices and principles.
- Review and discuss five key guidelines that will help supervise/manage others in manner that is consistent with EEO laws.
- Identify and understand two types or legal standards regarding sexual harassment
- Learn five common pitfalls in responding appropriately to workplace harassment
- Review four actions that will keep managers/supervisors and the University out of court.
This class is a part two of a six module, twelve (12) hour curriculum designed to train and support UT Dallas managers and supervisors in the performance of their jobs. Everyone who successfully completes all six modules of the class will receive a certificate of completion. For more information about this certificate series, please click here.
Target Audience: The class is open to any UT Dallas manager or supervisor. It is also open to employees who currently are not managing or supervising others but aspire to those positions.

Financial Information Systems (FINS) Training – Level 1—Tuesday, May 26th 2-4 pm, Odessa Room (JO3.210)
Description: The Office of the Controller is delighted to offer monthly Financial Records System (FRS) training classes for faculty and staff who have direct or indirect responsibilities for processing, reporting, or overseeing financial transactions at UTD. FRS Training – Level 1 is a 2 hour workshop designed to help attendees:
- Obtain a basic understanding of UTD’s accounting structure
- Learn how to navigate and read the online manager screens (screens 018, 019, 023)
- Understand the basic of FRS security
- Know how to access and view reports on the internet via ePrint
This workshop is given in a computer training room. In order to get the most value, we recommend that you bring your FRS account user name and password. This will allow you to follow the instructor by logging into your own set of data.
Target Audience: This class is for faculty and staff who have direct or indirect responsibilities for processing, reporting, or overseeing financial transactions at UTD.

SPIN Grant Funding
Description: The Office of Sponsored Projects and the McDermott Library will host an interactive demonstration of the SPIN (Sponsored Programs Information Network) and GENIUS (Global Expertise Network for Industry, Universities, and Scholars) databases. SPIN and GENIUS are the subscription databases the University of Texas at Dallas provides to assist researchers in finding funding opportunities. During this demonstration, you will have the opportunity to create your own personalized SPIN profile which will automatically send you targeted funding opportunities via e-mail. The facilitators for this demonstration will be from the Office of Sponsored Projects and Susie Kutchi from the McDermott Library. This class is open to all UTD faculty, staff and students interested in researching funding opportunities.
Target Audience: This class is open to all UTD faculty and staff interested in researching funding opportunities: New faculty, post-docs, grad students and Principle Investigators/ administrators.

Managers' & Supervisors' Roundtable Discussion Group
Description: The Manager's and Supervisors Roundtable is a group of UTD managers and supervisors who meet together to create opportunities for mentoring, professional development and networking. (We will be meeting from noon till 1:30 in AD 3.104 Lone Star Room.)
Target Audience: The group is open to UTD managers and supervisors who are directly charged with managing the performance of other University staff, including conducting annual performance reviews.

Description: Participants will discuss all aspects of an effective performance management system and the different methods for managing the performance of those they supervise.
Learning Objectives:
- Review and understand the key building blocks that constitute an effective performance management system.
- Identify and discuss the basic tools available for managing employee performance.
- Understand the primary and critical roles communication and relationship plays in performance management
- Learn the key components of an effective and meaningful annual review
- Learn how and when to use a written performance improvement plan (PIP)
