How Can IIE Help You?
The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) supports the launching of small businesses with both academic and outreach educational programs.
- Community Workshops: Covers a variety of topics relevant to the entrepreneur, will be open to anyone with an interest in innovation. Typical attendees are entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs as well as key employees and managers from startups to established companies
- Startup Launch Program: Students work on business ideas of their own, in UT Dallas research spinoff organizations or with select outside sponsoring corporations. Students also gain hands-on experience with:
- Creating value via integrated business models
- Launching a business
- Working on large-scale projects
- Running a business
- Acquiring outside funding
- Discover niche audience and key customer needs
- Entrepreneurial Development Series: A nine-session series addressing important topics in entrepreneurship offered in full-day sessions held once a month (To be scheduled).
- Paid Consulting Services: One-on-one consultation with our experienced faculty members.
- Interns: We can provide talented students with the innovative skills you need for your venture.

- Co-founded by MeLinda McCall, UT Dallas alumna, former officer of the Entrepreneurship Club and runner-up in the 2009 Business Idea Competition.
- Networking at the Business Idea Competition connected McCall to Proxomo’s co-founders.
- Proxomo’s software allows app developers to scale and maintain their app’s backend features.
- Proxomo sold to Lucent Mobile of Dallas in June 2013.
- Co-founded by Corey Egan and Swapnil Bora, UT Dallas alumni and winners of the 2010 Business Idea Competition.
- iLumi markets an interactive LED indoor lighting system that bridges smartphone, personal living and environmental trends.
- iLumi went on to compete in six other business idea competitions in 2011, taking Grand Prize in the Carnegie Mellon McGinnis Venture Competition and 2nd place, runner-up bracket in the Rice Business Plan Competition.
- Neuroscience PhD candidate and Jindal School of Management alumnus, Will Rosellini, was founding CEO of this company which markets a nerve stimulator to treat tinnitus and post-stroke motor rehabilitation.
- Rosellini has raised $10 million in private equity funding and has received numerous awards including the 2009 Graduate Student Entrepreneur of the Year given by the Entrepreneurs Organization at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards, the 2010 Tech Titan award given by the Metroplex Technology Business Council, and first place in the 2008 Licensing Executives Society Foundation Graduate Student Business Plan Competition.
