Digital Certificates: How to apply for Digital IDs on a Mac using Netscape

  1. Open the following web page in Netscape. To do so, simply click on the link below or copy and paste it into your web browser's address box. (You MUST be on a UT Dallas Network or using VPN)

(The address is case sensitive.)  This will open the enrollment site in a new browser window.

  2. Under ENROLL.  Click on for Encryption and Signing Digital ID.  That will bring you to the following screen.

  3. Enter your netid and password.  This is the id/password combination you use to access the UT Dallas network. (If you enter the wrong password, you will get the error message: "Digital ID cannot be issued Status Code: A001".  If you enter the wrong information, you may also get the error message: "Server Failure, Status Code: a06d".)
Create and enter a challenge phrase.  Do not use punctuation.  (If you enter an invalid phrase, you will get an Error Status Page detailing the error.  You will have to return to the Enroll page to reenter your information.)  You must remember the Challenge Phrase.  You will be required to type it in when you renew your certificates in the following year.
  4. Click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page.  You should see the following page after clicking on Submit.  Do not try to refresh your browser or move away from this page.  Wait for the process to complete.

(Note: you will also see a popup window like the one below.)

  5. Once the process completes, you will see a page similar to the one shown below.  Be sure to follow the instructions on this page.  You must download your encryption certificate, then use the password provided on the screen to import it into your browser.

Make sure you write down the password provided (with the p12 file you've downloaded) before you close the browser window, because you will need it to import your encryption certificate into your browser. Once you've saved it, you should be able to view it by opening the folder you saved it to by clicking on "Show File Location". (See example below.)
