Digital Certificates: How to Install your Digital IDs into Thunderbird on Unix
- Open Thunderbird
- Click Tools-Account Settings
- Click Security. If you have multiple email accounts attached to Thunderbird, you will need to repeat these steps for each account that you wish to use to send/receive digitally signed and/or encrypted mail.
- Click the View Certificates button to bring up the certifcates manager.

- Click the Import button

- Navigate to where you saved your certificate file and select your certificate file
- Enter the PIN you set when you downloaded your certificate.

- You should see the following success message when your certificate is installed.

- Click the Select button under Digital Signing.

- Click on the Certificate drop down box and select your certificate. You may only see one certificate listed.
- Click Ok

- Thunderbird should ask you if you want to use the same certificate to encrypt and decrypt messages sent to you. Click the Yes button

- Click Ok
- Publish certificates to the Global Address List (GAL)
- Congratulations! Now you're ready to sign and encrypt email.
