Digital Certificates: How to Install Digital ID into Vista Outlook
Preparing to use Digital ID in Office 2003
(Note: this option does not exist in Outlook 2007 or later.)
If you do not do this, the encryption and signing icons will not be automatically installed on the tool bar.
- Open Outlook
- Click Tools
- Click Options
- Click Mail Format tab
- uncheck the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages
- check the Use Microsoft Word to read Rich Text e-mail messages box,
- Click Apply
- Click OK

Installing the Certificate
- Open Computer
- Select H: Drive or the drive you have stored the certificates
- Open the certificate file (the file you just saved) by double clicking on it. This should launch the certificate import wizard.

- Click Next

- Click Next

- Enter the PIN you set when you requested your certficate.
- Check the Mark this key as exportable
- Check the Include all extended properties.
- Click Next
This will allow you to back up or transport your keys at a later time. Do NOT check the Enable strong private key protection box. If you check the Enable strong private key protection box, you will be required to enter your password every time you use your certificates. This is not necessary.

- Click Next

- Click Finish

- Now you will need to Publish to the GAL
Publish Digital ID to the GAL in Office 2003
- Open Outlook
- Click Tools
- Click Options
- Click Security Tab
- Click Settings
- For Signing Certificate, Click Choose
- In the Select Certificate, Select the Latest Certificate Expiration Date and click OK
- For Encryption Certificate, Click Choose
- In the Select Certificate, Select the Latest Certificate Expiration Date and click OK.
- Click OK on the Change Security Settings
- Click Publish GAL and Click OK for each pop-up window
- Continue to Click OK to exit all the Option windows
- Close Outlook and reopen it. The certs should now be in the GAL.
- Close ALL applications and Reboot Computer

- Congratulations! Now you're ready to sign and encrypt email.
Publish Digital ID to the GAL in Office 2007
- Open Outlook
- Click Tools
- Click Trust Center
- Click Email Security
- Click Settings
- For Signing Certificate, Click Choose
- In the Select Certificate, Select the Latest Certificate Expiration Date and Click OK
- For Encryption Certificate, Click Choose
- In the Select Certificate, Select the Latest Certificate Expiration Date and Click OK.
- Click OK on the Change Security Settings
- Click Publish GAL and Click OK for each pop-up window
- Continue to Click OK to exit all the Option windows
- Close Outlook and reopen it. The certs should now be in the GAL.
- Close ALL applications and Reboot Computer

- Congratulations! Now you're ready to sign and encrypt email.
Publish Digital ID to the GAL in Office 2010
- Open Outlook
- Click File Tab
- Click Options

- Click on Trust Center
- Click on Trust Center Settings button

- Click Email Security
- Click Settings

- For Signing Certificate, Click Choose
- In the Select Certificate, Select the Latest Certificate Expiration Date and click OK
- For Encryption Certificate, Click Choose
- In the Select Certificate, Select the Latest Certificate Expiration Date and click OK.
- Click OK on the Change Security Settings

- Click OK

- Click Publish to GAL

- You should see the following dialogue box. Click OK

- You should see the following dialogue box when your certificates are successfully published to the GAL. Click OK

- Click OK for each pop-up window
- Continue to Click OK to exit all the Option windows
- Close Outlook and reopen it. The certs should now be in the GAL.
- Close ALL applications and Reboot Computer
- Congratulations! Now you're ready to sign and encrypt email.
