Patching Windows: Finding the NetBIOS Name
To obtain the NetBIOS name of your computer, follow these steps:
- Go to "Start", then "Run...".
- Type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the window that pops up, and click "OK".
A window titled CMD will open with a blinking cursor. - In the cmd window that pops up, type "set computername" (again, no quotes).
Your computer's name will be displayed in the format COMPUTERNAME=XXXXXXXXX. - Once you have written down the computer name, type in "exit" to close the window
