Dear UT Dallas Community Member,I am writing to let you know that approximately 9,100 individuals, most of them students between the years 2000 and 2003, potentially have had sensitive information exposed by a computer network intrusion at The University of Texas at Dallas. Those affected by this incident who also hold UT Dallas email accounts were contacted by email this morning, and will receive a follow up letter via U. S. mail. If you have not received an email containing the subject line Computing Network Breach, you are not among those affected. On behalf of the Information Resources staff and the administration, I offer apologies to those affected. While the University does not seek to minimize the impact of this incident, there is no indication that the information has been disclosed, disseminated or used to anyone's detriment at this time. The University is actively cooperating with law enforcement agencies to identify the source of this attack, and in the best interests of those potentially affected, seeks to notify anyone whose information may have been exposed. This incident should remind us that we all can contribute to better network security by removing personally identifiable information from any electronic files we use or share whenever possible. For more information about this incident, see http://www.utdallas.edu/infosecurity/. Thank you. Jim Gary Vice President and Chief Information Officer |
