Please see emergencies or urgent care if your injury or illness requires immediate attention.
Student Health Center
If you are currently enrolled at UT Dallas, have a valid UT Dallas Comet Card, and if your illness or injury is not an emergency, you may schedule an appointment at the UT Dallas Student Health Center (SHC) in room SU 1.606 of the Student Union Building. The Student Health Center phone number is (972) 883-2747.
The SHC offers treatment for minor injuries and acute illnesses. Other services offered are well-woman exams, pregnancy testing, sexually transmitted disease testing, Cryosurgery, routine blood work, urinalysis, etc. Prescriptions can be written by the SHC as well. If the SHC is unable to treat your illness, you may be told to see a Primary Care Physician off-campus. Or, you may be given a referral to see a specialist. If you miss a scheduled appointment with the SHC, a $5 fee will be added to your account. There is no charge for an office visit. There are nominal charges for other services.
Physicians
If you are insured with Student Health Insurance and would rather see an off-campus physician than go to the SHC, you may do so. You may choose a Primary Care Physician (PCP) on the United Healthcare Options PPO Network website. By choosing providers within this network, your portion of covered medical costs will be 20% after you have met your $300 accumulative annual deductible. The insurance company will then pay 80% of the covered medical expenses. Only Family Practice Physicians and General Practice Physicians may be selected as PCPs. (The insurance company considers Internists as specialists.)
A PCP can treat a wide variety of illnesses and can handle most of your healthcare needs. If your PCP is unable to diagnose or treat your illness or injury, you will be referred to a specialist. You must have a referral from your PCP or the Student Health Center in order for the insurance company to cover charges for a consultation fee with a specialist . Without the referral, coverage for a specialist consultation fee will be denied by the insurance company.
