UT Dallas Helps Raise More Than $170,000
for Special Olympics at Corporate Challenge

UT Dallas cyclists competed in the Corporate Challenge 15K bike race.

With music, fun, food and awards, UT Dallas employees celebrated the closing ceremony of Corporate Challenge 2013 on Oct. 18. This year's effort raised $173,695 for the Dallas chapter of Special Olympics Texas.

After 10 weeks and more than 20 events, UT Dallas earned eight gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals in competitions ranging from tennis to darts. READ MORE

Ceremony, Concert to Celebrate O'Donnell Building

President David E. Daniel will lead a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday for the Edith O'Donnell Arts and Technology Building. Self-guided tours of labs and studios will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Saturday, the premiere of a new orchestral work will mark the building's opening. UT Dallas professor Robert Xavier Rodríguez, who holds the Endowed Chair in Art and Aesthetic Studies, has composed De Rerum Natura, which he will conduct with the Musica Nova orchestra at 8 p.m. in the O'Donnell Building's 1,200-seat lecture hall. Human Resources Schedules Meet and Greets

The Office of Human Resources will host two meet-and-greet events to give faculty and staff members an opportunity to learn about current HR projects, initiatives and practices. A presentation will be followed by a reception, at which employees can meet one on one with members of the HR team. Those interested may choose to attend either Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. or Thursday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the McDermott Suite located inside the Eugene McDermott Library.

Celebrate Inaugural UT System Day on Friday

UT Dallas faculty, staff and students are invited to celebrate the first "UT System Day" from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Student Union Plinth.

All nine academic institutions and six health centers will participate in a tribute to The University of Texas System. At UT Dallas, attendees can enjoy the release of hundreds of orange, green and blue, environmentally friendly balloons representing UT Dallas and UT System colors (weather permitting). There will also be free treats and giveaways. READ MORE

Employee Charity Campaign Extended to November 15

The deadline to contribute to the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) has been extended to Nov. 15. University faculty and staff are working toward a goal of raising $150,000 in gifts to local, national and international charities that help needy students, assist struggling families, provide medical care and more. In the past five years, UT Dallas faculty and staff have contributed more than $750,000 to the SECC.

Vehicle ID Etching Nov. 7

The UT Dallas Police Department, with the assistance of the North Texas Auto Theft Task Force and Dallas County Sheriff's Office, will host a free vehicle identification number (VIN) etching program for faculty, staff and students from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the area of Parking Lot A near the police building. Etching the VIN on a vehicle's glass can make it less desirable to thieves and save owners up to 10 percent on their comprehensive car insurance. READ MORE

Staff Council Sale Begins

The Staff Council's annual poinsettia fund-raiser has begun and will continue through Nov. 26. The funds generated from this sale help fund Staff Council Scholarships awarded to UT Dallas employees. Submit orders online or in person to Melissa Wyder in FN 3.308N.
