E-Waste Roundup Invites Employees to Recycle Electronics

University employees are invited to bring their old personal electronic equipment to campus for the free E-Waste Roundup. The event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 24 on the east side of the Alexander Clark Center, is part of the UT Dallas Earth Week celebration.

The drive is for personal items. Departments and offices that need to dispose of UT Dallas electronic property should contact Inventory and Surplus at [email protected]. Do not recycle or throw away electronic items.

Jindal School Art Benefit to Feature Employee Works

Photographic works, including contest entries by UT Dallas staff and faculty artists, will be on display at Artistic Impressions of Management. The event will be from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Meredith Fisherman, a development associate in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, was chosen as one of the winners for "Theory," a black-and-white image of the UT Dallas Trellis.

Other UT Dallas exhibitors will include Dr. Jillian M. Duquaine-Watson, a senior lecturer in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies, who will have three photographs on display. The display also will include more than 20 pieces by John Fowler, senior lecturer in the Naveen Jindal School of Management.

Dr. John Van Ness, past chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, will have artwork on display in the Pop-Up Art exhibit.

The event, organized by the Jindal School, will feature a gallery of special exhibits to raise funds for the Jindal Art Collection, which will complement the school's $25 million, 108,000-square-foot expansion, now under construction. READ MORE

Visiting Researcher to Share Findings on Improving Memory

The Center for Vital Longevity invites faculty and staff members to attend "Improving Cognitive Functioning," a lecture by memory expert Dr. John Jonides. The University of Michigan researcher's laboratory studies ways to better understand the operation of working memory, sometimes referred to as short-term memory. Jonides' presentation, which is the Jean and Bill Booziotis Distinguished Lecture, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the Communities Foundation of Texas, 5500 Caruth Haven Lane in Dallas. Registration is required.

Human Resources Posts 2014 Drug-Free Work Place Notice

In accordance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act, Human Resources has posted the 2014 notice for a drug-free workplace. This notice serves as a reminder to all employees that the unauthorized purchase, manufacture, distribution, possession, sale, storage or use of an illegal drug or controlled substance while on duty, while in or on premises or property owned or controlled by the University, or while in vehicles used for University business, is prohibited.

Register for the 2014 UT System Physical Activity Challenge

There is still time to sign up for "Living Well, Moving Well," the 2014 UT System Physical Activity Challenge. Employees who register can make plans to attend the UT Dallas kickoff event on Thursday, May 1 at 10 a.m., which will include a 10-minute walk around the south mall, starting under the Trellis.

May 2 - In recognition of Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May, the UT Dallas Wellness Committee will host a lunch and learn event, featuring Dr. Steven Le, who will share prevention tips to help you stay healthy. The presentation will be at noon Friday, May 2 in the Student Union Galaxy Rooms. Lunch will be provided.
