New University Buildings Make Debut with Fall Semester

Students began moving in to Residence Hall West on Aug. 20.

Staff and faculty members start the fall semester with a spate of new buildings and facilities now open for service.

Residence Hall West is home to 600 freshmen participating in Living Learning Communities. A new dining hall, recreation center and parking garage fill out the list of new student facilities and amenities on North Campus.

Improvements to South Campus include an addition to the Naveen Jindal School of Management.

“The addition of Residence Hall West, Recreation Center West, Dining Hall West and Parking Structure 3 is truly a game-changer in terms of activity in the north part of campus,” said Dr. Calvin Jamison, vice president for administration. Read more

Fair Teaches Preparedness in the Event of a Campus Emergency

Environmental Health and Safety will hold its annual Prepare Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Visitor Center Atrium. Faculty and staff members are invited to participate in fire extinguisher training and a “Smoke is No Joke” demonstration. Employees can also visit safety, emergency and health information booths, as well as an emergency vehicle display. The event is held in observance of National Preparedness Month. Light refreshments will be available. Fair attendees can also participate in a blood drive co-sponsored by the Student Wellness Center.

Ribbon-Cutting for New Construction — The Office of Administration invites the campus to celebrate the opening of Parking Structure 3, Residence Hall West, Dining Hall West and Recreation Center West. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies will be held from 2 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Parking Structure 3 and 2:45 to 3 p.m. at Residence Hall West. Free refreshments will be served after the last ceremony.

Celebrate National Payroll Week — Help the UTD Payroll Office celebrate National Payroll Week. The office is hosting an open house at the UTD Payroll Office (AD 2.224) on Friday, Sept. 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. UTD Payroll Staff will be on hand to answer any questions you have regarding your paycheck or other payroll-related questions.

Reminders

  • Surplus Sale — Surplus will give faculty, staff and students a chance to buy furniture, computers and audio/video equipment at a discount at its Surplus Sale on Sept. 11. The event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be held at the Surplus Warehouse, near the Facilities Management, Police and Service buildings.
  • Raffle to Support Staff Council Scholarships — The Staff Council is selling $10 raffle tickets through Aug. 31 for a chance to win a purple parking permit or one of two $100 Dining Dollars cards. The sale is part of this year’s staff scholarship fundraiser. Tickets can be purchased by credit card via the Staff Council Marketplace.
