In a change from the initial transition plan, staff and faculty will remain on the Exchange email system, which many employees access through Outlook on their desktops or the Internet-based Outlook Web App. The University will support Office 365 for students only.
Further review by IR showed that the University could save money by maintaining its existing Exchange email system for faculty and staff. That system is set for an upgrade soon.
Since November, more than 42,000 student Zmail accounts have been transferred to Office 365. The transition of students’ email to Microsoft’s new email service is nearing completion.
The comparatively small number of faculty and staff members with Zmail accounts will be moved to Exchange email servers instead of to Office 365. Faculty and staff Zmail users will be contacted individually to initiate the transition.
