New Assistant VP to Help Lead Compliance and Title IX Efforts

James Dockery
James Dockery has joined UT Dallas as assistant vice president for the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance. His office is charged with helping lead the University’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunity.

The office works to ensure that the University complies with policies and laws to protect students, faculty and staff from discrimination. It also conducts investigations of allegations of discrimination.

Dockery also serves as the Title IX coordinator for the University. Read more

President to Deliver State of the University Address Today

Join President ad interim Hobson Wildenthal, along with the Academic Senate speaker, Staff Council president and Student Government president, for the 2015 State of the University Address at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

The event will be held in the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building Lecture Hall (ATC 1.102).

UT Dallas Schedules Town Hall Meeting on Campus Carry Law

The University of Texas at Dallas invites you to a Campus Carry Town Hall Meeting, 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, at the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building Lecture Hall (ATC 1.102).

The forum will gather input from UT Dallas students, faculty and staff regarding the implementation of Senate Bill 11.

The legislation requires public universities and colleges to allow concealed handgun license holders to carry weapons beginning in August 2016 and allows institutions to establish reasonable rules regarding campus areas excluded from the requirement.

Click and Give to Support University Programs on Sept. 17

North Texas Giving Day
Staff and faculty members looking for an easy way to support UT Dallas can do so on Thursday, Sept. 17, when North Texas Giving Day returns. The online philanthropy campaign will accept gifts from 6 a.m. to midnight.

The North Texas Giving Day website will list UT Dallas, the Callier Center for Communication Disorders and the Center for BrainHealth as featured charities. Donors to the University also can specify that their gifts go to a certain campus program, department or school in the “notes” section of the UT Dallas giving page. Gifts of $25 or more may be eligible for bonus funds.

Presentation to Faculty Will Explore Ways to Enhance Teaching

Dr. Paul F. Diehl, recently appointed as associate provost and director of teaching-learning initiatives, will present “Turning Good Teaching on Its Head: A Thought Experiment,” at noon on Friday, Sept. 18, in GR 3.420. Reservations will be limited to the first 100 faculty members who respond online. Lunch will be provided.

Diehl’s priority in his newly created position is to establish a Center for Teaching and Learning. The center will offer programs and events to enhance undergraduate and graduate instruction.

Corporate Challenge Athletes Win 3 Gold Medals, 1 Silver

Corporate Challenge
Nearly five weeks into the city of Richardson’s annual Corporate Challenge games, UT Dallas has won three gold medals and a silver medal.

The golds were in cycling, table tennis and women’s horseshoes, and the silver was in volleyball. Overall, the University is in fifth place in Division B.

The games run through Oct. 16. Staff and faculty members can still sign up online.

9th Annual Preparedness Fair
UT Dallas Environmental Health and Safety will host its ninth annual Preparedness Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, at The Plinth, outside the Student Union. There will be safety, emergency and health information booths and demonstrations.

Drive Seeks to Sign Up 150 for National Bone Marrow Registry
The Office of Student Volunteerism will host a Bone Marrow Donor Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the Student Union Galaxy Rooms (SU 2.602). The goal is to recruit 150 people to join the bone marrow donor registry. Read More

Next Human Resources Forum Scheduled for Oct. 7
The Office of Human Resources will host its next HR Forum from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in TI Auditorium (ECSS 2.102). Each forum offers updates from all areas of HR, including Benefits, Employment Services, Employee Relations, and Organizational Development and Training. Attendees can learn about new HR programs, network with colleagues and share best practices.
