Charitable Campaign Total Climbs Above $74,000 Mark

Events to Celebrate University’s Founders and Growth of Campus
With a little more than a week remaining in the State Employee Charitable Campaign, staff and faculty donations have reached $74,000. The University’s goal is $135,000 this year. You can choose to have your gift support the UT Dallas Academic Bridge Program and the Callier Center for Communication Disorders.

The Academic Bridge recruits and supports underrepresented, first-generation college students who have high rankings in Dallas-area urban high schools. The students receive ongoing support at UT Dallas, including tutoring, mentoring and peer advising. The Callier Center offers one of the world’s best audiology training programs, provides clinical care for the Dallas community, and houses important research in speech, language and hearing.

Payroll deduction is the most popular way for employees to give. Sign up online. One-time gifts by check can be sent in care of Paula Bratt at mailstop SPN 10.

NetIDplus Gives Security Boost to Online Accounts

NetIDplus, a project by the Information Security Office to increase the protection of computer user accounts, has been tested and is now a part of the University’s defense against data theft. This additional layer of security now protects:

  • The PeopleSoft payroll direct deposit link, which employees use to set their deposit information in Galaxy.
  • VPN remote access, which secures remote connections to the University’s network.
  • SSH remote access, used for Unix systems applications.
NetIDplus protection is based on a security concept called two-factor authentication. Most people know the concept from using an automated teller machine in which the two requirements for a transaction are a personal identification number (something the person knows) and an ATM card (something the person possesses). For most NetIDplus users, a cellphone or tablet will serve as the second requirement.

A criminal may be able to steal a password but should not be able to gain access to UT Dallas systems without also stealing the user’s mobile device. Visit the NetIDplus website to learn more and enroll.
