New CSI Tool is on the Case Against Software Vulnerabilities

The Information Security Office has teamed up with Technology Customer Services to reduce a serious security concern: out-of-date software.

The solution they have rolled out – an application called Secunia Corporate Security Investigator (CSI) – is helping keep campus computers patched with the most-current software updates to avoid the kinds of vulnerabilities that viruses and malware can exploit.

CSI allows programs to be patched at the same time and by the same method that computers receive their monthly Microsoft Windows patches. Read More

Discount tickets for faculty and staff members are on sale for the spring Arts and Technology Distinguished Lecture Series.

Employees can choose the Two-Lecture Ticket Plan and secure a seat to both spring presentations for a single charge of $20 for the orchestra section or $15 for the mezzanine. Or they can use the faculty/staff promo code for $5 discounts on up to four tickets to a single lecture.

The first ATEC lecture, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, features Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour, the nation’s first African-American female combat pilot. Her topic is “Driving Diversity Deep into the DNA of Your Organization.” The discount promo code for employees is ARMOUR2016.

Next up, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, will be veteran National Geographic Society photographer and editor Chris Johns. His topic is “America’s Best Idea.” The discount promo code for this lecture is JOHNS2016.

Both lectures will be at the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building. You can select your own seats or let the online ticketing system choose the best available seat.

Event to Get 10-Week Wellness Challenge Moving on Jan. 26
The UT Dallas Wellness Committee will host the kickoff event for this year’s 10-Week Wellness Challenge noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26. The event will be in the Faculty and Staff Dining Room, the Student Union Food Court. Attendees will be able to register, participate in a free Zumba class and enjoy a light lunch. The challenge, organized in coordination with Live Healthy North Texas, runs through Friday, April 1. Participants form teams of up to 10 people, with a goal of promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles. To create a team, sign up at livehealthynorthtexas.org. Select “Join Today,” then enter the group ID code LHDUTD, and add your team members. Team members will receive emails with usernames and passwords to log in and complete their profiles.
