Human Resources has posted the 2017 notice for a drug-free workplace in accordance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act. The notice is an annual reminder to all employees that the unauthorized purchase, manufacture, distribution, possession, sale, storage or use of an illegal drug or controlled substance while on duty, while in or on premises or property owned or controlled by the University, or while in vehicles used for University business, is prohibited.

Students, staff and faculty are invited to join the Office of Student Volunteerism (OSV) in celebrating National Volunteer Week, April 24-28, with on-campus events that highlight the benefits of service. Registration is now open for events including Piggy Bank Painting, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in Galaxy Room C, and Hats for Hope, presented in association with Health Occupation Students of America, from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in Galaxy Rooms B and C. On Wednesday, April 19, there will be a fundraiser for student scholarships from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Panera Bread at 730 E. Campbell Road, Suite 300 in Richardson. Present a UT Dallas Student Scholarship fundraiser flyer in print or electronic form when you order, and Panera will donate a portion of all sales during this time frame to the UT Dallas Scholarship Golf Tournament fundraising efforts, which benefit the Academic Bridge Program, the Betty and Gifford Johnson Graduate Scholarship, and the Patti Henry Pinch Scholarship for Undergraduate Research.

The 24th annual golf tournament will be Friday, April 28, at Firewheel Golf Park in Garland. There is still time to sign up for the tournament. Bidding for the tournament’s online auction is also open.

UT Dallas is participating in America’s PrepareAthon! — a nationwide, community-based campaign to increase emergency preparedness and resilience. Its goal is to increase the number of people who:

• Understand the hazards that affect their community.
• Know what to do to be safe and mitigate damage.
• Take action to increase their preparedness.
• Participate in community resilience planning.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to take the Preparedness Pledge to do at least one thing to better prepare themselves for hazards. Those who take the pledge will be entered to win a NOAA weather radio. The winner will be chosen at random and announced at the end of the month.

Faculty and staff who travel abroad on University business are invited to attend a Travel Wellness Lunch-and-Learn from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, May 19, in the Student Union Faculty and Staff Dining Room. Representatives from the Benefits Office, the Employee Assistance Program, and the International Center Risk and Safety Office will discuss assistance and benefits available to employees while they travel. Complete the RSVP form to indicate your attendance and reserve your lunch. Seating is limited.

Faculty and staff members ordering deliveries to campus should direct vendors to the new online delivery map. The map offers recommended driving routes and parking areas for delivery drivers, as well as areas where no driving is allowed. Vehicles must have a company logo, decal or car topper, and have emergency flashers on when parked in the designated loading zones, 10-minute parking, service vehicle, or visitor parking areas notated on the map. Parking in nondesignated areas may result in citations, booting or towing.
