Architecture and Back Office GroupAnti-VirusThere are various types of Anti-Virus software available in the market for desktops and servers. The Information Resources Security Office chose McAfee virus protection suite is ideal for our needs. The Back Office Group has implemented McAfee virus protection suite across the CAMPUS Active Directory domain. The McAfee applications being used to protect our infrastructure are McAfee VirusScan 8.5i, McAfee GroupShield 5.2, and McAfee Alert Manager 4.5. The virus protection suite we have implemented fully suport the following platforms:
McAfee GroupShield 5.2 is the software installed on all of the Microsoft Exchange servers. It scans all incoming and outgoing e-mails for potential virus. Since e-mail virus community is very active in creating new virus the application is updated frequently to stay current. GroupShield is scheduled to automatically install the latest update every day. GroupShield sends an alert to the sender and recipient each time the email is blocked. McAfee VirusScan 8.5i is the Anti-Virus software installed on all desktops and servers which are member of the campus Active Directory domain. Since the computer virus community is very active in creating new virus the application is updated frequently to stay current. We have setup a Group Policy which is checks for updates everyday. Historically McAfee releases one update per week (Every Wednesday). If your computer is part of the campus Active Directory domain just restart it and VirusScan 8.5i will be automatically installed. When VirusScan detects a virus on your computer, it automatically generates an alert and sends it to the Information Resources Information Security Office.
