How To...Install Digital Certificates on a BlackBerry


These are the instructions for installing digital certificates on a BlackBerry. There are three parts to these instructions. The first part is installing the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. The second part is installing SMIME. The third part is modifying the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software.
  1. Windows Vista: Open Windows Explorer, click the Windows Logo, click Computer. Navigate to ALLSHARE drive (P:\). Under the ALLSHARE drive navigate through Installs, BlackBerry and Desktop Software v4.2 SP2. Run the application BlackBerrySetup.



  2. Windows XP: Open Windows Explorer, click on Start, click My Computer. Navigate to P:\Installs\BlackBerry\Desktop Software v4.2 SP2. Under the ALLSHARE drive navigate through Installs, BlackBerry and Desktop Software v4.2 SP2. Run the application BlackBerrySetup.



  3. In the InstallShield Wizard, click Next.



  4. Country or Region Selection, select USA (English), click Next.



  5. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, click Next.



  6. Customer Information, enter your name under User Name. Enter UTD for the Organization, click Next.



  7. Destination Folder, we will use the default settings, click Next.



  8. Setup Type, select Typical, click Next.



  9. Integration Options, select BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Desktop Redirector, click Next.



  10. Choose BlackBerry Enterprise Server, select Microsoft Exchange (typically used with Microsoft Outlook client), click Next.



  11. Message Redirection, select Redirect messages using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, click Next.



  12. Shortcut Installation Options, select Start desktop manager automatically each time the computer starts, and Create a shortcut for desktop manager on the Windows desktop, click Next.



  13. Ready to Install the Program, click Install.

  20. InstallShield Wizard Completed, click Finish.



  21. You should now see the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.



  22. Click Help then About. You should now see About Desktop Manager information window, click Close.



  23. Proceed to Step Two




This is the second part of the installation, SMIME.

  1. Windows Vista: Open Windows Explorer, click the Windows Logo, click Computer. Navigate to ALLSHARE drive (P:\). Under the ALLSHARE drive navigate through Installs, BlackBerry and SMIME support package. Run the application AEP-SMIME-4.1.0.12-MultiLang.



  2. Windows XP: Open Windows Explorer, click on Start, click My Computer. Navigate to P:\Installs\BlackBerry\SMIME support package. Under the ALLSHARE drive navigate through Installs, BlackBerry and SMIME support package. Run the applicationAEP-SMIME-4.1.0.12-MultiLang.



  3. Security Warning, click Run.



  4. Choose Setup Language, select English, click OK.



  5. Preparing to Install... status window.



  6. InstallShield Wizard, click Next.



  7. Country or Region Selection, select USA (English), click Next.



  8. License Agreement, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, click Next.



  9. Installing S/MIME Support Package Version 4.1 status window.



  10. InstallShield Wizard Completed, click Finish.



  11. BlackBerry Desktop Manager, installation of SMIME has been completed.



  12. Proceed to Step Three




This is the third part of the installation, modifying the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software.

  1. If the BlackBerry Desktop Manger is open, close it.



  2. Windows Vista: Open Windows Explorer, click the Windows Logo, click Computer. Navigate to ALLSHARE drive (P:\). Under the ALLSHARE drive navigate through Installs, BlackBerry and Desktop Software v4.2 SP2. Run the application BlackBerrySetup.



  3. Windows XP: Open Windows Explorer, click on Start, click My Computer. Navigate to P:\Installs\BlackBerry\Desktop Software v4.2 SP2. Under the ALLSHARE drive navigate through Installs, BlackBerry and Desktop Software v4.2 SP2. Run the application BlackBerrySetup.



  4. In the InstallShield Wizard, click Next.



  5. Program Maintenance, select Modify, click Next.



  6. Custom Setup window.



  7. Select Certificate Synchronization, click Next.



  8. Integration Options, select BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Desktop Redirector, click Next.



  9. Choose BlackBerry Enterprise Server, select Microsoft Exchange (typically used with Microsoft Outlook client), click Next.



  10. Message Redirection, select Redirect messages using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, click Next.



  11. Shortcut Installation Options, un-select Start desktop manager automatically each time the computer starts, and Create a shortcut for desktop manager on the Windows desktop, click Next.



  12. Ready to Modify the Program, click Install.

  15. Roxio Media Manager configuration window.

  17. Roxio Media Manager, select Browse....



  18. Navigate to P:\Installs\BlackBerry\Desktop Software v4.2 SP2\SR_MM. Under the ALLSHARE drive navigate through Installs, BlackBerry, Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 and SR_MM, select Roxio Media Manager.msi, click Open.



  19. Roxio Media Manager, click OK.



  20. You will need to restart your computer, click Yes.



  21. You will be prompted to enter you key store password, click OK.



  22. You should now see the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
