How To... Configure Windows Messenger 5.1 for the Office


These are the instructions for configuring Windows Messenger 5.1 for the office on Windows XP.
  1. Click Start and select Windows Messenger.



  2. Depending on your Windows XP firewall settings you might get a Windows Security Alter window. Select Unblock to allow Windows Messenger to access the internet.



  3. On Windows Messenger select Tools, then click on Options....



  4. Select the Accounts tab.



  5. Make sure that .NET Passport Account and Exchange Account do not have a check mark.
    Under SIP Communications Service Account check mark or select My contacts include users of a SIP Communications Server.
    Enter your NetID in the Sign-in Name:.
    Click OK.



  6. You should now see your NetID on Windows Messenger. Click on your NetID.



  7. You are now ready to sign-in to Windows Messenger.
    Enter your Sign-in name:
    Enter your User name:
    Enter your Password:
    Click OK.
