Hints and Tips
- The * (star) key is a help key. Although prompts
are available at each step, you can get more information about what you
can do by pressing the * . The Meridian Mailbox system will list available options.
- Often, after you are familiar with the system, you know
which key(s) to press without listening to the prompts. You do
not have to listen to the entire prompt. Simply press the
correct key to interrupt the prompt, and continue.
- To stop, cancel, or exit, press the # key. In the main menu, the # key will stop or exit from the Meridian Mailbox. If you press the #
key while reviewing messages, or changing your greeting or password,
you will cancel what you are doing or exit to the main menu.
- You will be notified that you have messages in your Meridian
Mailbox by a Stutter Dial Tone or Message Waiting Light on your office
phone. When you are out of the office, you may want to check your
mailbox once a day. Select a time each day to check your
messages, so you will not miss any important calls!
- Whenever you call the Telecommunications Center about your
mailbox, always refer to it as Meridian Mail. There are two voice
mail systems offered by UTD Telecommunications. The
commands used to manage the system and answers to your questions depend
on which system you have.

To access the Meridian Mailbox system from your phone
- Call the Meridian Mail number, 2000.
- When prompted for the mailbox, press #.
- When prompted, enter your password, then press #.
To access the system from any other phone number
- Call the Meridian Mail number, 2000 (or 972-883-2000 from off-campus).
- When prompted for the mailbox, enter your mailbox number, then press #.
- When prompted, enter your password, then press #.
To log off...

- Enter your new password
- Enter your new password again
- Enter your old password (the password is now changed)

If you regularly communicate with the same group, you may want to
create a distribution list. This will enable you to create one message
and send it to the group quickly and easily. To create a distribution list
- Log into your Meridian Mailbox and press 85.
- Enter a number (from 1 to 9) which will identify this list, then press #.
- Press 5 to create the list, enter a four-digit mailbox number and press # after each number.
- Press # again after the last entry.
NOTE: If you put in a wrong mailbox number by mistake, press 0# to delete it.)
To check your distribution list
- While in your mailbox, press 85.
- Enter the distribution list number (1 through 9).
- Press 2 to play the list.
- When you are finished, press 4 to return to your messages.
To edit or delete your distribution list
- Press 85 for Distribution List.
- Enter the distribution list number (0-9).
- Press 2 to review the list.
- Press 5 to add to the list.
- Press 6, (find), then enter the mailbox number (address) and press 76 to delete it.
- Press 76 immediately after you hear the list number (1-9) to delete it.
- Create a new list to replace the deleted one if desired.
- When you are finished, press 4 to return to your messages.

Express Messaging is used in two ways:
- To send messages direct to a Meridian Mailbox, and
- To transfer callers to a Meridian Mailbox
Send Messages Direct
Anyone may send a message direct to a Meridian Mailbox user with the Express Messaging number.
- Call 6600 (or 972-883-6600 if calling from outside of the University).
- When prompted, enter the four-digit Meridian Mailbox number, and press #. You will hear the Name Verification to confirm you have the right mailbox.
- Leave your message after the tone.

The Operator Assistance number, commonly known as the "Zero Escape,"
permits callers to speak to a live operator by pressing the 0 key while
listening to your greeting or at the end of the greeting. You may set
your own 0 escape number by following these simple directions once
inside your mailbox:
- Press 80 to access your mailbox options.
- Press 1 Press 1 to review the custom operator number -
a prompt tells you the current custom operator number.
- Enter the new custom operator number, then #.
You will hear an announcement repeating the number you
just entered. Don't forget to tell your callers they may press
"0" at any time during your greeting.

Remote Notification, or Out Calling, alerts you that
you have new messages in your Meridian voice mailbox when you are away
from your desk by calling you at a phone or pager. Before you set
up your Meridian Mailbox to outcall, it's best to plan a
schedule. Schedules can be as simple or complex as you
choose. When setting a schedule, you will be asked to choose what
type of message the system should notify you about - all messages or
urgent messages only.
- Choose a schedule - business day and/or non-business day (the
temporary schedule overrides the business and non-business schedules).
- Select when you should be alerted to new messages by setting as many as three time periods in each schedule.
- Finally select how you should be notified - by phone or pager.

- Log in to your Meridian Mailbox.
- Press 80 for Mailbox Options.
- Choose 2 for Remote Notification service.
- Enter the schedule type:
- Press 1 for Temporary
- Press 2 for Business
- Press 3 for Nonbusiness
- If you press 4 for Message Type, you are only alerted to Urgent messages.
- Press 5 to begin schedule setup.
- enter the number of the telephone or pager for which you wish to receive notification, then press #.
NOTE:You can use 4 digit ext. #, 10 digit telephone or pager
number but (9) has to be used when using 10 digit numbers.
- Press 5 for paging service, then enter your 3-digit pager identification number.
- Press # to continue.
- Follow the prompts to set start times and end times.
- Press # to exit.

You will be notified that you have new messages by a stutter dial tone or a message waiting light.
- After logging in, you will hear a mailbox summary.
- It tells you how many messages you have.
- Messages are played in chronological order, and preceded by "envelope" or announcement information.
- Envelope information includes the date, time and caller's name and number (if they are on the same system).
- New messages are played before read messages.
- Listen to the first message announcement which is followed by the message itself, or you may press 2 to skip envelope information and play the message. To change the message speed, press 21 to go slower or 23 to go faster. Change the message volume by pressing 24 for softer, 26 for louder.
- To delete the message, press 76 at the end of the message. You may also delete during the message or its announcement.
- You may restore a deleted message simply by pressing 76 again.
- To hear envelope information only, press 72.
- To move around messages in your mailbox;
- Press 1 to skip backward (5 seconds)
- Press 3 to skip forward (5 seconds)
- Press # to pause, then 2 to continue again
- Press 6 to go to the next message
- Press 4 to go to the previous message
- To go to a specific message, press 86, then the message number, and #.

There are two methods to re-record your greeting, but the first is preferable.
- While logged in
- Press 82 for Greeting
- Then press 1 to record your external greeting, 2 to record your internal greeting
or 3 to record your temporary greeting.
- Then press 76, and the current greeting will be deleted.
- Press 5, record the new greeting.
- Press # to end recording.
- To re-record only a part of the greeting
- Press 5 at the point you wish to record over
- Record the new greeting
- Press # to end recording
- The new recording will erase the old recording from the point where you pressed 5.

You may REPLY to a message via Meridian Mail.
- At the end of the message, press 71.
- Press 5 to record your reply (wait for the tone), then press # when you are done recording.
- You may listen to and/or edit your reply. To listen, press 2. To re-record, press 5 at the beginning of the message. Wait for the tone, then re-record, and press # to end recording.
- Press 79 when you are ready to send your reply.
You may FORWARD a message via Meridian Mail.
- At the end of the message, press 73.
- Enter the mailbox (phone) number to which you want to forward the message, then press #.
- Press # again if no other destinations are
desired. If you want to forward the message to more than one
mailbox, enter the next mailbox number and press #. Repeat this process for each destination.
- Next, press 5, and record an introduction to the forwarded message. Press # when you are done.
- To send the message, press 79.

You may use your Meridian Mailbox to send a message directly to other Meridian Mailbox users.
- Press 75.
- Enter the mailbox number of the person to whom you wish to send the message or the distribution list number
- Press #.
- Press # again if no other users are to get this message.
- Press 5 to record the message, then press # to end recording.
- Press 79 to send the message.

Follow a similar procedure similar to a standard transfer.
On a single line phone
- Press the Tap or Link button. This places the caller on hold, and you will hear dial tone.
- Dial the Express Messaging number, 2000. When prompted,
enter the mailbox number you wish to transfer the caller to, and press
#. You will hear the Name Verification to confirm you have the correct
mailbox.
- Press the Tap or Link button again to conference in the caller.
- Press the Release button if your phone has one or hang up.
On an electronic phone
- Press the Transfer (or Conf3 or 3WC) key. This places your caller on hold and you will hear dial tone.
- Dial the Express Messaging number, 753-0900. When prompted,
enter the mailbox number and press #. You will hear the Name
Verification to confirm you have the correct mailbox.
- Press the Transfer (or Conf3 or 3WC) key again.
- Release.

To Set up...
- Press 82 for greeting.
- Press 3 for Temporary Absence Greeting (TAG).
- Press 5 to record the TAG.
- Press # to end the recording.
- Press 9 to set the expiration date and time (Optional).
- Press 4 to exit the greeting.
- Press 83 to logoff.
To Delete...
- Press 82 for greeting.
- Press 3 for TAG.
- Press 76 to delete the TAG. Your regular greeting is restored.
