Q1. How do I get a Caller ID display? Will a Caller ID unit from home work at UTD? A. You must have a digital phone to have a Caller ID display. An analog Caller ID unit (like one you would use at your house) will not work on the UTD phone system. If you have an analog phone, you have to upgrade to a digital phone line and purchase a Meridian digital display phone. If you already have a digital phone line, then you'll need to buy a Meridian digital display phone and have your phone line re-programmed to activate the Caller ID display. Q2. Is my phone digital or analog? What's the difference? A. Analog phones must be used on analog lines; digital phones must be used on a digital phone line. Analog phone service is the type of phone line you have at home, and can be used with almost any standard telephone set. Digital phone lines require a special phone set compatible with Nortel's digital phone line. The advantages of a digital phone set include the ability to answer multiple lines, and easier access to features like transfer and forwarding. The disadvantages are higher cost for the phone sets, and incompatibility with analog devices like fax machines. A digital phone is NOT the same as a VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) phone. Q3. How long will it take to install/move a telephone? A. It depends on our workload. Typically, work orders are completed within 3 business days. If you have an office move scheduled, we will make every effort to move your phones on the day of the move. Q4. Can I use a cordless phone here? A. If you have an analog phone line, you can use a standard cordless phone. However, we cannot troubleshoot problems with your cordless phone. Q5. We have some old phones we don't use anymore. What can we do with them? A. Phones are purchased by the department that uses them, and are the department's property. We are happy to take your old phones for spare parts and to replace broken phones. However, we cannot give you a credit or trade-in on your old phone. Q6. Can you fix my internet (network) connection? A. Network connections are installed and maintained by TCS. Our phone technicians are not equipped to repair your network connection. Please call 2911 for assistance with your network connection. Q7. How do I get a longer base cord? A. We can supply base cords of almost any length. There is no charge to your department. Q8. How can I make a conference call? A. You can set up a conference call for up to six people, including yourself. Please refer to the user guides for detailed instructions. |
