Currently, there are two email systems in use at UTD: the main Cyrus IMAP system, and the older email system. Most users are on the Cyrus system, including all accounts created since Fall 1997. Access to email on the old system is available only from the on-campus UNIX servers. Users on the Cyrus system may access mail remotely as described below. Users on the old email system may request migration to the Cyrus system via email to postmaster@utdallas.edu; eventually, all users will be migrated.

IMAP is recommended over POP for several reasons. IMAP handles large mailboxes better, and is less likely to cause inconsistencies in your inbox, reducing the chance of losing messages.

Cyrus system configuration for remote email access:

  IMAP Inbox Server: inbox.utdallas.edu
  POP Inbox Server: inbox.utdallas.edu

  SMTP:
  1. If you are using an ISP to access your IMAP/POP inbox, then you will need to use the SMTP server provided by that ISP.
  2. Or, if you are using the UTD dialup services, then you can use the address smtp.utdallas.edu as your SMTP server.
