WebCT Classes


WebCT Fundamentals

This workshop introduces participants to the interface and tool sets. After working in My WebCT and Mail, participants will explore the Build, Teach, and Student View tabs as they become familiar with select tools. Participants will then learn the key skills necessary to begin designing a course. Through hands-on activities, they will customize their course by adding and editing headers, creating and adding simple components, and customizing the look of their course. Mastering the Fundamentals is a great way for designers to get a “jump start” on their course design and gain the foundational knowledge for more advanced workshops.

WebCT: Communicating with Students

In this workshop, participants will gain hands-on experience with a variety of communication tools. Participants will first learn to use the Announcements, Syllabus, and Calendar tools to inform students about important course information. They will then explore the Who’s Online and Chat tools used for real-time, two-way communication. Strategies for effectively using the tools to enhance learning will be presented throughout the workshop.

WebCT: Creating and Managing Assessments

In this workshop, participants will learn to create, manage, and grade assessments. Working in the Build tab, they will learn to create a variety of question types as they build quizzes, self-tests, and surveys. Through hands-on exercises, participants will explore the numerous assessment features and available settings. From the Teach tab, participants will use Assessment Manager to grade quizzes, view surveys, and generate assessment reports.

WebCT: Creating and Managing Groups and Assignment

In this workshop, participants will use the Group Manager tool to create groups, sign-up sheets, and group activities. Participants will also become familiar with the Assignments tool and how it can be used to create individual or group assignments that can be submitted as text with attachments, or as a web site. Collaboration options for assignments will also be explored. Finally, participants will learn to use the Assignment Dropbox to grade and publish assignments.

WebCT: Learning Modules and Media Library

Workshop participants will explore several options for presenting content to students. After reviewing options for sharing individual files with students, participants will learn to build Learning Modules and customize the Action Menu to create rich, structured learning paths for students. Participants will also use the Media Library tool to create collections of terms and media files to share with students.

WebCT: Managing Your Course

In this workshop, participants will gain hands-on experiences with a range of useful tools and utilities for effectively and efficiently managing their course throughout the semester. Participants will learn to manage the delivery of content by hiding items and setting release criteria..

They will then learn to configure section settings to meet specific design or instructional objectives. Turning to content management tasks, participants will learn to leverage File Manager to efficiently upload and manage multiple files and folders. Participants will also learn how to adjust all dates within a course and create a course preview page. They will facilitate content sharing by importing and exporting assessments, questions, and learning modules. Finally, they will create section backups to use in case of user error or grade challenges.

WebCT: Mastering the Grade Book

In this workshop, designed for faculty who are preparing to teach online, participants will learn to navigate the Grade Book, and tailor it to meet their needs. They will learn to create additional columns, including text, letter grade, and calculated columns, to achieve specific evaluation goals.
Participants will then learn how to manage section members and grades, and access audit trails and individual performance reports.

WebCT: Maximizing Discussions

In this workshop, participants will explore how to use the Discussions tool to enhance teaching and learning. They will learn the functionality of the tool, including how to view and post messages, and create new topics. Turning to facilitation tasks, they will learn to moderate, manage, and grade postings.

WebCT Grade Submission Lab

Faculty who would like assistance submitting their grades to SIS using WebCT are encouraged to attend this session. eLearning Team staff will be on hand to assist each faculty member individually to ensure grades are successfully submitted.

Using Respondus

In this session, you will learn to use Respondus to quickly and easily create tests and quizzes in WebCT from documents and test banks. If you have tests in electronic documents (such as Word) that you would like to administer using WebCT, this session will show you how.


Office 2007 Classes


Introduction to Microsoft Office 2007

This course will introduce the new user-interface in MS Office 2007. We will examine the 'ribbon', office button and new file format extensions.

Outlook 2007

This course will provide specific information on how to utilize the new Outlook 2007. Topics to be covered include: what's new, calendar and scheduling, views, rules and alerts, tasks, search and navigation.

Word 2007: New Features

Word 2007 provides a look at new Word features. Concepts to be discussed include: using styles to format content, formatting documents, using Quick Parts and Building Blocks and Custom Content. This course assumes previous working knowledge of Word and only will cover "new features" in Word 2007.

Excel 2007:New Features

The Excel 2007 New Features course will cover the following: new worksheet size, creating and formatting charts,creating and formatting tables, using structured referencing in formulas and creating and formating PivotTables.

PowerPoint 2007: New Features

PowerPoint 2007 New Features will cover concepts such as converting bulleted lists to a diagram and diagram formatting as well as discussing the sharing of content with a slide library, creating static documents and creating custom slide layouts and applying themes.

Access 2007 Level 1

Microsoft Office Access 2007 is a database management system that has many new features via the use of the Ribbon. This session will look at the features of the new user interface that enables users to quickly create a database.

Excel 2007 Level 1

Microsoft Office Excel 2007 is a spreadsheet program that enables users to organize data, complete calculations and much more. This latest version provides a significant worksheet size increase. This session will look at performing general tasks such as entering text, adding totals, formatting text in a worksheet and more.

Outlook 2007 Level 1

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 is a powerful communications/scheduling program that facilitates personal communications. This session will cover various general tasks such as open/read e-mail, printing email, replying to and forwarding email, viewing file attachments and other basic features in Outlook 2007.

PowerPoint 2007 Level 1

Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 is a complete presentation graphics program allowing professionals to produce dynamic-looking presentations. This session will cover the latest version features such as graphics and other appealing visuals to perform many general tasks.

Word 2007 Level 1

Microsoft Office Word 2007 is a full-featured word processing program enhanced to make document creation more efficient and professional looking. This session will look at various new features such as graphical elements, new charting and diagramming tools as well as the use of themes and more.
