MATLAB Information

STUDENTS

MATLAB is a highly popular computing tool that is available to students who use the on-campus UTD computers. MATLAB is a fourth generation programming language and comes with many tools and available ways of anazlyzing data, including matrix manipulation, plotting of functions and data, and many other popular functions.

MATLAB is available to any on campus UTD owned computer. If you wish to have a personal version of MATLAB or use this program at home, you can purchase a STUDENT version at the Campus Tech Store. The version used on the UTD computers however, is the FULL program, and NOT a student version, so the version available for purchase on campus would not have all of the same features, but does include many essential tools that are found in the full version. For more information on the student version, follow the link to the store HERE.

FACULTY

MATLAB may be put on faculty computers however, the current philosophy on general-use Matlab/Matlab toolbox licensing is that if a faculty/department pays for the 1st year, then IR will pay for the subsequent years maintenance.   These licenses go into the pool of licenses, so they are available to all and are not necessarily dedicated for the use of a particular faculty member.  To guarantee access, the user would have to buy and individual license set - the more sets purchased per department, the cheaper per set.  A department that wishes to acquire an individual license would contact the vendor and deal with them directly.  IR would "not" pay for subsequent yearly maintenance on individual licenses. You should contact the vendor to get prices and information on any licensing issues.
